When I think Stephanie Mills- I think of The Wiz. She played her in the play- and should have played her in the move but they swapped her out for a too old Diana Ross. I also think her voice suited the roll much better- but that didn't stop the Wiz from becoming a classic!
Speaking of The Wiz- this song is from the Wiz. Both Diana and Stephanie have a version...and without any question at all- Stephanies' version is the definitive version. I have a live performance and she sounds exactly like the album. Amazing, amazing, amazing voice! If I had a time machine I would use it to go back and watch the original The Wiz.
I don't know why this sounds a bit Christmas like to me. But it's clearly not a holiday song. But very 80's. It's a bop.
Last song- What Cha Gonna Do With My Lovin'. Oooh I love this one. It's one of those songs that really seems like it's building the misery. And it shows off her range a bit better than the other song...
Such an underrated vocalist. Worth checking out!
