Shirley Bassey. I first heard Shirley Bassey on the Kanye Track- Diamonds. Actually I think that's how most of us heard her music. From there I was intrigued and added her to my list so I could check out her full discography later.
I found a few songs I love actually.
Starting with Diamonds are Forever. The Kanye sampling of this song was genius and shined a light onto the Diamond conflict- I really knew nothing about it until that song. I do love it ...but I don't love diamonds. I don't even actually like them. Whenever I want to buy jewelry I try to find pieces that don't have diamonds- and it's so hard to find! But yeah, not a diamond girl. I love this performance though, what a voice!
Then we have Goldfinger. Another James Bond movie song. Her voice has such range and power and that control! I love this song- have no idea what it's about. Maybe I should have a James Bond movie marathon? Hmm.
I have four versions of this song in my collection...So I guess I'm a fan of the song. I think the first version I heard was a cover on American Idol. The instruments just pull you right in. I really couldn't tell you which version is my favorite- but I do really love Shirley Bassey's version. There is both a franticness and a calmness to this version, it's really quite fascinating.
A different style of music than what I usually post- but variety is the spice of life!
