Last review of the day. This shower gel is almost on its last legs so I figured I would review it before it's all gone. I placed too many orders from Lush last year and picked this up of Lush.de after it was sold out on the US site. This was a special release for Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead. I believe it's limited edition though...so I don't think it will be back this year. But I guess we shall see.
Lush claims:
As revellers adorn their homes with Cempasúchil garlands, you can adorn your skin with marigold infusion and a little sparkle in homage to the tradition. The vibrant colour and fragrance of this beautiful blend reminds us that death in pre-Hispanic culture was not seen as something bad but as a process of transformation. May it also bring you joy on gloomy mornings or dark evenings.
"Cempasúchil shower gel is inspired by the Cempasúchil flowers that are used to decorate ofrendas for Día De Muertos. The Aztecs believed their ancestors used the scent of the flower to find their way back to their loved ones. Today, they are still used for the same purpose, making beautiful crafted garlands and using petals to make pathways or bridges to guide the spirits back home.”
What's in it for you?
- Marigold infusion is known for its cleansing and clarifying effects on the skin.
- Vegan glycerine helps attract moisture into the skin, leaving it soft.
I didn't really know what to expect with this. I was just intrigued by it and I kinda want to buy more of the different Lush Holiday releases.
It was named for the flowers- cempasuchil or marigold. Which are beautiful. In my favorite color, orange!
I don't know much about Aztec culture, so I definitely learned something today. I don't celebrate Day of the Dead but I do think it's a beautiful holiday and a positive way of looking at death.
As for the shower gel, it's very fruity. Lot's of orange, maybe passion fruit, and mango. Possibly even pineapple. It smells very tropical and fruity. And makes me crave a smoothie every time I use it. There's another scent I can't quite put my finger on, it's a bit odd but fades as you lather it up.
The scent lingers a little bit after a shower. But slightly.
The lather is OK. Some Lush gels lather better than others. This one is mid. I've used some that bubble up more.
It doesn't dry my skin and rinses clean though.
Also...almost forgot to mention the gel itself is so pretty. Orange and Sparkly. It used to be the sparkle settled in the bottom of the bottle but I guess Lush recently improved their formula. And you don't have to worry about plastic glitter because Lush uses a plastic free glitter.
The ingredient list is different than the other gels from Lush. Glycerin is the first ingredient. Not typical at all. Its main special ingredient is Marigold/Calendula which is most known to be soothing to the skin. It also has Bergamot oil , Buchu oil, Grapefruit oil, and Lactic Acid.
Ingredients:
Glycerin, Marigold Petal Infusion, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, SLS, Calcium Lactate Gluconate, Fine Sea Salt, Lauryl Betaine, Lactic Acid, Bergamot Oil, Grapefruit Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Synthetic Glitter, Silica, Tin Oxide, Geraniol, limonene, Linalool, Perfume, Color
I have really enjoyed my little bottle. I don't think I needed a larger size. I would recommend this if showering with a tropical smoothie is something that appeals to you.
