Harlem Candles Purple Love Candle Review

I feel like this week went relatively fast, hopefully it slows down now that the weekend is here. I bought this candle and a few other Harlem Candles in the Holiday Sale. It was supposed to be one of Oprah's favorite things back in  2023. I can say it's not my pick as a favorite- but I still love the brand and will repurchase my faves.

Harlem claims:

Boldly emotional and clairvoyantly perceptive, James Baldwin traversed the globe from Harlem to Provence, France in search of the feeling of love. He was in love with love and craved the intense power, pain, and euphoria it could produce.

Top Notes: Watery Green Notes, Elemi, Apple, Clove
Middle Notes: Rose de Mai
Base Notes: Sandalwood

The "Purple Love" candle celebrates love and portrays a dramatic romantic theme with both masculine and feminine accords melding beautifully together. An ethereal, fresh opening of crisp apple and watery green notes evolves with an unexpected nuance of aromatic elemi and spicy clove.

The sensual heart of lush rose celebrates Baldwin’s deep affection for his garden in St. Paul de Vence with blossoms of varying shades of crimson and deep violet set against a purple sky at sunset. A base of smoky sandalwood brings warmth and depth to this enigmatic and highly personal blend.

Made in USA

This doesn't really smell how I expected it to smell. I'm not really sure what I was expecting but if I had to describe the scent I would say it's a powdery rose scent. I don't smell much of anything else...but it is supposed to have green notes, apple, spicy clove, and sandalwood. I can't pick out those notes when burning. It's literally just powdery rose.

I had been craving Rose scents- but usually when I get them I don't really like them all that much. I did that with the Jo Salon Red Roses soap. Actually this scent reminds me of that soap. I think the Jo Malone has a slightly more realistic rose scent. Like you are literally smelling  bruised rose petals. This is a bit more powdery although it does still smell like authentic rose.

It's more of a daytime candle scent. I kept trying to burn it at night- which is when I prefer to burn my fancy candles.  I lit it last week while the sun was out and liked it a bit more that way. It's pretty strong but not headache inducing. It drifted into every room of my apartment which I wasn't really expecting. It's definitely suited for a large open space.

As for the packaging- it's nice! It comes in a purple glass jar. I usually place them in the recycle vs keeping them to re-use. It comes in a nice box with a Map of Harlem on it. Very giftable.

The candle is also generously sized. So many luxury candles don't come in an 11 oz size. It does have two wicks... although I prefer one. I just think they burn a little slower. I think maybe they switched out the wicks for thinner wicks which I like better. They don't mushroom and soot like the ones in my older candles did.

Overall, it's not my favorite scent from Harlem Candles (Josephine and Speakeasy are my favorites!) . But if you want a powdery rose scent, I think this is one worth trying.
