Kinky Curly claims:
CURLING CUSTARD TM gives moisture and curl definition, hold and brilliant shiny hair all in one product!
For best results apply CURLING CUSTARD TM to soaking wet, freshly washed hair. For very kinky and tightly coiled hair use KNOT TODAY TM as a leave-in conditioner then apply CURLING CUSTARD TM to soaking wet hair in small sections. Smooth each section with fingers from root to tip.
So, I'll start off with scent. It smells good, like vanilla cupcakes, but the scent doesn't last long. In some of the review videos I watched before I bought it, a lot of people compared the texture to runny snot. They were right. I've never used a gel with that texture before.
They recommend using it with the Knot Today. But I am not spending an extra twenty bucks. That makes forty dollars for just one product. My mom did have some Knot Today left that she bought over the summer. I don't think it makes that big of a difference and you could definitely try other leave-ins. Just be careful because not all leave-ins play nice with the curling custard.
The way your supposed to use it is to run it through small sections of hair. I don't have time for all of that but I tried it anyway. My hair is a little more defined than any other product has ever made it. (But then again my 4a curls aren't hard to define)And it has a little shine to it. Unfortunately, when I do it that way I used about a third of the container. Not Cool.So now I just clump it through my hair and rub it in. Works just as well.
I think this product works a bit better on looser hair types. It's not heavy enough to weigh my curls down and I get A LOT of shrinkage.
Also the most this lasts is about three days. The second day is definitely the best. After that I'm left with a frizzy mess.
Ingredients:
botanical infusion of water, horsetail, chamomile, nettle and marshmallow, organic aloe vera juice, agave nectar extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin e), pectic, citric acid, potassium sorbate and natural fragrance
Overall, it was an OK product. At this price, it should be exceptional. Fun to try, but I probably won't buy it again.
