Samples Review: NARS Orgasm Blush, Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, and Urban Decay Supercurling Mascara

Nars Orgasm Blush- What a name for a blush! I think it's actually kind of clever. And I think it's helped propel it to what might be the most well known blush ever. It's touted everywhere as a universal shade that suits everyone. And many people call it their HG. I have a couple NARS blushes...but I've never really wanted this. I've heard it doesn't show up on darker skin. Which I find to be true. I have Too Faced Who's Your Poppy Blush...which is said to be a dupe. But that one has chunkier gold glitter that emphasizes skin texture. Based on my experience with the sample I prefer this one. The shimmer isn't so obvious.  But neither are doing a whole lot for my face. If your on the opposite end of the color spectrum, this might be worth testing out.

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat
I first saw this product a couple years back on one of those TV Shopping networks. I think it's the first highlighting product I had ever seen. Maybelline kind of did their version of it with the age rewind concealer, but other than that I haven't seen many dupes. Which is why I was excited to try out the sample. No need to be really. They have THREE shades. And none of them darker than medium. WHY? I though they would have a light, medium, and dark to include everybody. Not YSL. They put shade 1 and 2 (light shades), and shade 4.5 (medium). I did open it up and play with it and it seems like a nice formula. Would have been nice to try it out in my color though. Shame on them.

Urban Decay Supercurling Mascara
I normally don't like mascara's with the plastic bristles. But I love this. In fact, I love it so much  actually bought the full size. It's sitting untouched in the back of my makeup drawer until I get through my mascara samples. I get supercurled lashes with length and volume very quickly. And it doesn't flake or smudge at all. But my lashes are already naturally curly and I don't usually have problems with flaking and smudging. I really do like it though. It's a great mascara! Just don't apply too much or it can clump the lashes together. Oh, and I love the packaging. Are all Urban Decay Mascara's so good?

That's all for today...but I have a couple more samples in my drawer waiting for me to use and review...so be on the lookout for more mini reviews!

Have you tried any of these? What was your experience with it?

Wet N Wild Mega Shimmer Dust in White Lotus Review

I've been putting off reviewing anything, mainly because I don't feel like taking pictures. Just having one of those weeks. On with the review, anyway!

Wet n Wild claims:
Super-fine shimmer for seductive, eye-catching sparkle.

Awhile ago I really wanted the Make up Forever Diamond dust powder. But I figured for how much it costs, and how much I would actually wear it, it wasn't worth it. So when I found this, I figured I may as well try it out. Wet N Wild products don't break the bank at all, most of their products are under $4. I think I got this for two and some change.

I've heard of people using these for many different thing-eyeshadow, highlight, adding to lotion to make it shimmer and on and on. I tried it all this ways and really didn't like it for anything.

Adding it to lotion doesn't really add much shimmer. It's way to white for a highlight on my skin tone. And as a shimmery eyeshadow top coat it just wasn't very impressive. I don't use it with glitter glue, I just pat a bit on. It usually disappears and fades in about two hours. It doesn't that look that great anyway. It kind of covers whatever color and makes it look like white glitter. I was hoping it would bring sparkle to whatever I put it on top of.

The packaging is not good either. Mine broke a long time ago It's just very flimsy.

I almost forgot, it seems scented. I'm not sure if it's just mine, but for some reason it smells kind of like chocolate. Almost like the Too Faced Chocolate Range. But I haven't heard anyone say that....kinda strange.

I will probably use mine up by throwing it in the bathtub next time I take a bath.

Overall, I wasn't very impressed. Excuse my struggling brows....

Too Faced Who's Your Poppy? Blush Review

Have you ever done a workout program that continuously kicked your butt? The one I'm doing now is  literally killing my legs. And it's only ten minutes! Ten minutes of side squats, lunges, regular squats etc. that never fail to bring pain the next day and the next after that. But no pain no gain. Or so they say. I just can't wait to be done with it.

Today I have a blush review. And yes, it is discontinued, but Too Faced often brings back their products in palettes so I figured I would just go ahead and review. Plus it's my reference point for other shades that are similar.

Too Faced claims:

  • Long lasting bloom: achieve long-lasting cheek color by applying our creamy full bloomcheek and lip color formula first then layering full bloom ultra flush blush over top
  • Blush options: wear our full bloom formulas alone or pair them together for a multidimensionaleffect
  • Luminous finish: cheeks always look fresh and glowing with our innovative formulacontaining stimulhyal, an ingredient that assists in hydration and elastin production

It's a warm pink with a lot of gold shimmer. It swatches beautifully on my hand. And I've seen a couple comparisons between this and the infamous NARS Orgasm blush. I couldn't tell you for sure because I don't own it but I've seen the comparison often enough that I believe it.

So like I said it swatches beautifully on my hand, but unfortunately it doesn't translate to my cheeks well. The pink in it doesn't show up (it probably would on a lighter skin tone). And when I tried to layer it all I get is intensely, shimmery gold cheeks. Which does not look good. It emphasizes any texture and looks horrible up close and in natural lighting.

But I have a whole pan of it. I think it's a full size. It contains .14 ounces of product. So I didn't want it to just sit there unused...so I started to use it very lightly as a highlighter. It looks OK as long as I'm not heavy handed. I have to be careful with highlighters in general because my skin can get a bit oily and highlighters contribute to the problem. It's easier for me to get away with it in cooler weather.

The lasting power is excellent. It pretty much sticks until I wash it off.

I did try it out as an eyeshadow just to see if it shows up as nicely on my eyes as it does on my hand...and I didn't really like the effect as much. So I only found one way to use it.

I got mine a couple years back in the Too Faced Loves Sephora palette. I was thrilled it contained products for face but to be honest I usually would forget I had it.

As you can probably tell, it's just an OK product for me. I really wish the "pink" in it would have shown up. I've made a tiny dip in it and it will probably take me years to fully use it up, but I'm going to try! And stay away from gold/pink shades in the future. I did want to try the NARS shade but if it's like this, there's not really any point.

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Gold Deposit

I recieved this as a birthday present from a GREAT friend. No one has ever bought me MAC before but I was so excited to get this. I've had it now for over a year but I was saving it until I finished my other blushes. I would only break this baby out for special occasions. It costs twenty-eight dollars which is pretty steep. I'm happy I got it as a gift.

MAC says:

It is abosolutely beautiful to stare at. It just looks so pretty with it bronze and gold sswirls. As I understand this has many uses. You can use it over blush, over a pink would be to die for but any color would do. You can use it as an eyeshadow, wash color or highlight. Or you could use o to highlight cheekbones or the nose.

I notice for me this product is more suitable for night. In the daytime it looks too glittery (I can see gold chunks) but I can use it if I use the a light hand. In the night time it looks perfect. It adds a "glow". I use it with my 187 brush for cheeks.

Overall, it's good stuff you just have to know when to use it and how much to use.
