Slip Back to Basic Dark Brown Midi/Large Scrunchie Set

Quick review today...cause I have the Monday Blues. But I do want to get this review out the way because I feel like I have a lot I want to do....and hopefully I keep sticking to them. I've wanted scrunchies for a while, ever since I realized a lot of curly girls pineapple their hair and then wear a bonnet to preserves their curls.

Slip claims:

MEET YOUR MATCH WITH BACK TO BASICS.

SLIPSILK™ SCRUNCHIES DESIGNED FOR YOUR HAIR SHADE.
DESIGNED TO BE ANTI CREASE, ANTI BREAKAGE.

Traditional hair ties can tug on delicate hair which can lead to damage and breakage. Slip® scrunchies are made with slipsilk™, the same silk used in the award-winning slip® pure silk pillowcase.

This set includes: 2 x dark brown slipsilk™ midi scrunchies and 1 x dark brown slipsilk™ large scrunchie.

Made with slipsilk™ to be gentle on your delicate hair | 100% silk (exclusive of elastic).

made in China

I don't have the type of curls that I thought would work with that (my hair is more coily/kinky) --- so I bought these thinking I would use them on the very rare occasions that I straighten my hair. I was using an elastic at night and feared a bump-although I didn't really get any. I still wanted a scrunchie though. I picked up some drugstore cheapies and but I always ended up putting them back before I checked out. I do that a lot when I'm shopping...I just take things for a walk around the store and then put them back.

I'm not sure when I realized they made silk scrunchies. One of the things I was worried about is other materials  drying out my hair. Silk is said to not dry out your hair though. And my hair needs to retain all the moisture it can. Especially when I have it straightened- but then again I do use foam rollers when my hair is straight and those do dry out my ends for sure.

But back to the silk scrunchie. This set looked best to me. All I had to do was pick a color. And they have some boring color selection. I guess the colors are supposed to match your hair...I bought the dark brown and wish I got the black. I also wish they carried brighter more fun colors. I don't like this shade of brown because it's more yellow based brown. I was hoping for a more red brown.

But it's OK. I only wear this to sleep and with a bonnet on top. No one is seeing it. I have used them a few times...and no dried out hair. I have noticed one of them is a bit more stretched out than the other....but so far still looks and works well.  The silk is nice and silky and has no rough edges that snag and pull the hair out.

They do what I need them to do. The only thing I didn't like was the price. They are expensive. You can definitely find small business owners that make these by hand...so I'm not sure I would repurchase this exact brand again. But I am happy with my purchase.

Check out my hair in the picture below...this is after two nights sleeping on my hair which was a twist out. I just "pineapple" my hair. Not as high though. Then throw a bonnet on. And my twist out has lasted up to TEN DAYS...which was pushing it for me. No re-twisting whatsoever. That has never happened to me before. I don't think a silk scrunchie is necessary but I also don't think I would ever be without them again.

Denman D38 The Detangling & Styling Paddle Brush Review

I wanted yet another detangling brush to add to my small collection. It takes me forever to detangle my hair and even longer now that I am really trying to not rip through my hair. Sometimes it can't be avoided but on the whole I am so much more gentle than I used to be. I've been able to get my detangle sessions down to 45-50 minutes which is a big cut from the hour and half it used to take me. I still wish I could get through my hair quicker and I think that's why new detangling things appeal to me so much.

I have been seeing the Un-Brush everywhere...and I made myself choose between that one or this one this year. The Denman won. I watched a bunch of reviews and I like that the Denman is made in the UK, it's supposed to be sturdier and last longer than the Unbrush....and I am familiar with Denman. I have had my first Denman for well over 10 years. Possibly longer than 15. So I bought this one this year and may let myself pick up the Unbrush sometime next year.

Denman claims:

  • 3-in-1 brush with famous D3 pins for wet curl definition, detangling and fast blow-drying
  •  Perfect for longer length hair
  • Ideal for rapid and smooth blow-drying
  • The air-cushioned pad makes it comfortable on the scalp

TOP TIP: Rapid blow-drying to remove excess moisture

Basically I picked this up because of youtube. There is a natural hair stylist that raves and raves about this brush which made me want it. I wanted to see if it worked as amazing on my hair as it seemed to work on everyone that sat in that stylists chair.

It's definitely a nicely made brush- and what set's it apart from most brushes like this in the drugstore are there aren't any balls on the end of the teeth- which can snag on my hair type. It also isn't rigid and has a lot of give...the red part of the brush completely collapses which makes it more gentle on the hair.

I haven't tested it for blow drying because I don't blow dry my hair often and I definitely don't have a regular dryer I can use on my hair like that. If I do get one and end up testing it like that, I'll update on how I liked it.

I mostly use it to detangle. And I can definitely say there are other things I like better to get through my hair. It is gentle. Doesn't tug too much on my hair and it doesn't hurt my head at all. The way it sounds is a little unsettling. It does sound like it's ripping through my hair...but it's not. It just makes the oddest noise. I don't like to go directly in with the brush- I like to use a wide tooth comb first and then finger comb through tangles. Then I will go through with this brush but my hair doesn't feel truly detangled. So I have to go over it with the tangle teezer to make sure it's truly tangle and shed hair free.

So that's three different tools I have to use when I use this to detangle since I just don't  like using it on its own.

It's one I could take or leave. More likely leave. I am going to continue using it...it may work better on a looser curl/less kinky hair though. I have type four (likely 4c hair) that loves to tangle on itself. I'll keep it for now, it could be I pass it along to my Mom or sister later on when I find something that works better in my hair.

Amazon Detangler Brush For Natural Hair Review

I did actually blow out my hair last night and I used the Revlon One Step which I bought about two years ago and somehow never really used it. I always had the intention though. It's just that after a detangling session the last thing I want to do is then blow out my hair. It always take a minimum of an hour. Even with my favorite detangling brush. Especially now that I am trying to be nicer to my hair. That means no more just ripping through and out tangles. At least that's what I've been doing for the past few months. Hopefully I keep it up. The Tangle Teezers are hands down my favorite detangling brushes- but they still take a long time to get through my hair- the teeth are smaller. Around the time I bought that brush, I bought this one. It's basically a cheap dupe of the Felicia Leatherwood Brush. Another one that is popular is the EZ Detangler. I bought this one just to see if I would like this style before trying the pricier ones.

Detangling Brush claims:

  • 🌷DETANGLING EASILY: come with 3 pieces detangler hair brushes, and each piece with a detachable bracket at the back, Flexible head with 8 rows of separate ultra-soft nylon bristles that glide through tangles and knots with ease. The bristles gently massages the scalp while stimulating blood flow and strengthening your hair.
  • 🌷THE HEALTHY AND PAINLESS WAY TO BRUSH HAIR: Our hair brush detangler is designed brilliantly to minimize pain and to protect hair against split ends and breakage. can easily detangle matted curly, wavy, coily, kinky, thick, long and natural hair without damage. Feel less pain on scalp, saves more time in detangling your hair.
  • 🌷INTIMATE DESIGN: Detangler brush for women with a detachable bracket for fixing and stretching the bristle, whose back has 2 slots, different heights according to the hair condition.
  • 🌷FOR WHOM: If you have super curly 3a to 4c African American hair, this easy A.DASHER detangler brush is the perfect tool for you, its bristles detangle your wet/dry hair with conditioner/oil applied smoothly and easily. If you have normal tangle or very long thick hair, this brush can also be your choice.
  • 🌷PERFECT FOR ALL HAIR TYPES: Doesn't matter if your hair is long or short, curly or straight, thick or fine, this brush will run through any hair type removing tangles while making the hair soft. It works great on wet or dry hair and is perfect for men, women and kids.

This is not a branded brush but you can find them on Amazon pretty easily. You can get them in a three pack, or even a two pack for 8 dollars or less. I bought mine in a two pack and gave one to my Mom. I probably should have gotten a three pack and given one to my sister though.

Mine pretty much broke as soon as I got it. I gorilla glued it back and it works as it's supposed to. It did come with a spacer- I threw it out because I did not read the description and had no idea what it was for so I tossed it. Whoops. I know a lot of people prefer the brush with that but I couldn't tell you if it works better or worse with it since I thought it was trash.

Anyway...I like it. It works better than a wide tooth comb because it's like you have a comb right behind it and right behind that ready to detangle what the first one couldn't. I do find it better to detangle hair by using the brush vertically and then turning it the regular way once that area is detangled. I don't feel I get everything really as detangled as it should be- unless your hair is only mildly tangly. I like to follow it up with the tangle teezer to really get any shed hair out and to give my scalp a bit of a massage.

So I don't use it on its own.

I do really like it though, I'm glad to have it in the collection and I might replace it if I lost it or if it broke for real. I do see the teeth are kinda bending out of shape but it's still useable and I guess the flexibility is good because otherwise it might rip the hair out.

Probably the best thing about it is how easy to clean it is. It takes only a few seconds to remove any hair from it. It's a bit harder to clean my Tangle Teezers.

Although I did say I am done buying detangling brushes-somehow the Denman D38 ended up in my shopping cart and I bought it. I can't wait to try it, I've heard nothing but good things about it so I am looking forward to trying it out. I'll probably review it in about a year or two since that's usually how long it takes me. But maybe sooner.

What's your favorite detangling tools?

Tangle Teezer Ultimate Detangler Hairbrush Review

My kitchen looks like a nightmare and instead of cleaning it, I'm procrastinating and writing a post. The mess will still be there there when I'm done, right? It's actually not that bad, would probably take 7 minutes to sort but I am just feeling lazy.

Tangle Teezer claims:

It’s a fan favourite

Designed for use on wet hair and in the shower, The Ultimate Detangler effortlessly slips through your hair (and thanks to its handle, not out of your wet hands).

The patented two-tiered teeth technology is gentle on vulnerable, shower-fresh hair, meaning less breakage, more of that running-your-fingers-through-your-hair feeling. The long teeth detangle, while the shorter teeth smooth - a team effort at its finest.

Treating your locks to a conditioning treatment? Use The Ultimate Detangler to evenly draw your products of choice through the lengths of your hair.

If you have long, thick or curly hair, let us redirect you to The Large Ultimate Detangler. Sometimes size does matter.

The mini Ultimate Detangler is perfect for travel with a savvy keyring hole on the handle. Although small, it confidently detangles any type of hair, helping to reduce hair breakage. The mini size doesn’t mean it’s just great for kids. It’s perfect for adults too!

Hot tip: Keep this hairbrush away from heat!

Together with the Ultimate Detangler, avoid breakage and enjoy smooth, detangled hair.

Made in UK

I'm a big fan of the Tangle Teezer. I have three in total and have given one each to my Mom and my sister. I definitely don't need three but I got a little carried away and wanted to try the one with the handle and also try the one specifically designed for curly/kinky hair.  Honestly there isn't that much difference and I find them all interchangeable. The main difference seems to be the length of the bristles and the flexibility of them.

The curly brush has much stiffer bristles. I think as a result it is less gentle...but it's not rough though.  I think the Ultimate detangles get's through my hair gentler and possibly easier. I can get through the hair in less passes without tugging/pulling. So I think I prefer this brush over the naturally curly but only slightly. I probably should have gotten my Mom/Sister this brush but it might be they would have preferred the other because we all have different hair textures and curl patterns.

It is plastic and usually I avoid buying plastics but...it's that good I don't care. I believe they have a way to recycle them but I have yet to have mine get to the point of needing to be tossed. I'll update if anything changes though.

I used to get tangling at the roots and my hair would knot pretty badly on itself. Somehow detangling through the ends and middle just get the the roots. I can easily brush from the scalp to the ends once this sorts the tangles. Love that!

Overall, can't live without it. The best thing I have used to get through my hair....there are some other brushes/combs I have been tempted to try but then I doubt anything can beat how great these are for me.

Tangle Teezer The Original Review

I wish I was at the beach right now.  I've never been a beach person before, I think it was because I was never comfortable with my body. My thighs are out of control, so chunky, lotsa cellulite, dimples,  I have cankles but I think reached a point where I just don't really care. Wish I could have felt like this when I was younger though. When I went to the beach a few weeks ago, I even wore a 2 piece. No coverup. I felt naked at first but after awhile and getting in the water I just felt comfortable. Before I start searching for a flight though (I prolly won't be going anywhere for a little while but I'm still gonna search) I'll go ahead and finish this post.

Tangle Teezer:

The Original is our multi-award winning detangling hairbrush that launched the brand. Our seasonal on-trend colours have kept this brush trending for over a decade and has become a cult classic loved by so many!

, although
This hairbrush is ideal for regular hair types, it glides through wet and dry hair, helping to loosen tangles with no pulling and tugging.

The patented two-tier teeth deliver a painless experience - the long teeth detangle, whereas the shorter teeth smooth the hair cuticle. The results are smooth and healthier looking hair with increased shine.

I bought this a few years ago actually. It had been on my radar (along with another brush) but sometimes I'm a little hesitant to order. I was also a little skeptical.

I wish I hadn't been. I LOVE THIS THING!

I remember when the Denman brush was extra hyped. And I still really like my Denman but not for detangling. It's great for grouping kinks and coils though.

This just detangles my knots and shed hair like a dream. And I feel like it minimizes hair loss while getting all the shedding hair out. How? IDK. I just know it works. I keep looking at the flexible teeth I still don't know why it works. Its just does. Before the Tangle Teezer it took hours for me to detangle and twist my hair. Now I can get it done in an hour, sometimes an hour and a half if it's been awhile. Not detangles necessary.

I want to try the tangle teezer specially for my hair type, I just bought this one when I saw it in the store and recognized the name. Maybe the next time I place an order from Ulta I'll get the other one.

For now I love this one. It's been holding up...OK. The plastic coating on the top is peeling. Some of the teeth are bent. But it still works. And works so well that I don't care. I don't think I will need to replace it for another couple of years even with those issues. I hear they have a recycling program though, I will definitely use it if/when it needs replacing.

I only use mine on wet hair. I have heard of people stating it gives them split ends, I just try not to use it too often. Finger detangle and when needed go in with this....

I believe I've had mine for two years, although I forgot about it until recently. I really wish my Mom had this when I was a kid, she was rough at detangling. Then she would say I was tender headed but really she was just too rough. My head hurts just thinking about it....😩

Worth at least trying...

I Got A SEDU flat iron!!!

This was a complete impulse buy.

I needed a trim. ASAP.

And I was going to make an appointment to get my hair straightened and trimmed. But I kept thinking of my last experience. The lady that did my hair left for about two hours in the middle of blow drying.  I was stuck waiting for her.

My hair started to puff up as soon as I left the salon.

And she cut too much off. Grr.

I wanted to learn how to straighten forever..but my hair is a little intimidating. It's 'frolicious

So I was on folica.com. (I bought a dual-voltage Solia flat iron years ago but it doesn't work anymore) And I saw that they had the Sedu iron with the European plug. Since I'll be living in Germany for the next two years I figured I might as well.

Then Folica had $25 buck off.

And I couldn't NOT get it.

So before I knew demons took over my body and made me get out my debit card and order.

And a week later it was here!!

The day I got it I flat ironed. And the iron glided through my hair like BUTTAH!

I trimmed (more like hacked away large amounts of hair because I AM scissor happy)!

And I had shiny silky hair.

Unfortunately I didn't take pics until the day after when it puffed so that's why I'm showing the front only. Next time I promise to take pics.

I'm in LOVE with my SEDU. It feels kinda light (like a toy) but it heats up in 25 seconds and does an excellent job of straightening.

And that's all folks.

Falling In Love with my Denman Brush...Again!

Ok..so years and years ago I did a comparison with Goody's version of Denman brush and that actual one. I gave the Goody one to my sister and mom....but found out that they completely broke the brush. And my mom said she really like it...so I let her have mine in hopes that I would buy another one. But at ten bucks I just didn't want to buy another.

So I didn't. And I am telling you, my hair suffered. Until I came back home and found my beloved brush buried way deep in the bottom of a basket full of hair junk. So...I...ummm....took my brush back. I mean no one was using it right?

Besides that, no one noticed it missing. So I got my brush back and I love it all over again.

It makes my hair more curly by helping to define the curl. For the last year my hair has been a lot more frizzy without it. (sad face)

It takes out that shed hair that like to collect and hang in balls at the end of my hair. I hate that.

And last but not least it defines.

Sigh.

I love my Denman!! And if your a curly, kinky, nappy, girl...I highly suggest adding it to your collection!!

That's all ladies! Have a great weekend!!

Denmen VS Goody Knock Off

vs.
When I first decided to go natural, I started reading online about natural hair like I was obssessed. It seems that every fotki I visited had a picture of a denman. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to Sally's so I settled for the Goody knock-off. And it has served me well. It get's all my shed hair out so it doesn't tangle on itself. The one part that didn't hold up is the red part. It sometime's likes to slide up. It still worked though so I didn't care.

Over Christmas break I had access to Sally's and I couldn't resist the Denman. It's sleeker and just feels like better quality. It has less teeth and is a bit smaller but it does it's job.

For me other than it looking better it doesn't detangle my hair any better or worse than my knock-off. My Goody brush costs around five dollars and the Denman was ten. For price, I'de say go for the Goody.

Now that I have the Denman I'll probably give my Goody to my mom to use in her and my sister's hair.

Conair Detangling Comb for Wavy/Curly Hair

Why did I take the picture with the comb facing the other way? Oh Well that's not the important thing. So because my last comb sucked and it broke in half while I was detangling, I had to get another comb to detangle my naps with.

Of course I'm attracted to weird things and this was shaped so weirdly I was skeptical to if it was going to go through my hair. Lo and Behold, it did! Very easily. I realized just how much the other comb I was using sucked. It seems sturdy and the best part...... I actually detangle more which is so much better for my hair. I'm ashamed to admit I only detangled my hair.... about once a month....but this comb changed me for the better (dramatic, i know)

I was also skeptical because the comb is Conair, and I hate Conair. Who would have thought?

Note:Inspect the comb for snagging pieces because some of them do have pieces that SNAG.
