Venus Swirl (And Platinum) Razor Review

Can you believe next month is Christmas? This month flew by. I was just looking out my window and I'm already seeing some Christmas lights. Is it too early for the Christmas lights? I guess with the way this year went maybe people need some Holiday Cheer a bit earlier. I can't really talk because I am guilty of ordering my Christmas candle so I can have something to burn on Christmas Eve/Christmas.

In the meantime, I was in  my closet looking for something to review. And I came up with these. I was playing with buying an electric razor- but then they have those California Warnings about causing cancer and I always put them right back.  I also thought about buying a safety razor to cut down on plastic waste. But then I got overwhelmed trying to pick a brand so I ended up with more Venus. It's widely available and I got sucked in with the metal handle.

I think this particular razor is discontinued. The site is a bit confusing so I can't really tell. Or maybe they just renamed it

It's a refill pack that comes with four cartridges. Each razor has five blades. So you would think you get the smoothest closest shave ever. It's just alright. I don't know if the quality has gone down since I used to get these in high school but I used to get smoother results with razors that only had three blades.

I use mine quite awhile before tossing away. Except one that just broke away and I couldn't re-attach. Wasted my money on that one.

I do have the metal handle which is just like the plastic one.It does have plastic on it. I have never had the plastic ones fall apart- I think I just lost them. But the metal one does feel heavier and like that it will last a long time. I'll update if it doesn't. I'm a little lazy to get up and take a pic so I just took this stock pic from online.

Other than that I don't get nicks, cuts, or an angry reaction of bumps. So I guess it's great in that regard.

I don't think I would buy this again. Although I do think it's been discontinued or renamed so I probably can't. I think I might branch out and try something new next time. It's definitely time.

Gillette Venus Sensitive Razor Review

I hate shaving. It's right up there with dusting and washing dishes for me. So...most of the time I don't. But it's necessary sometimes. So I keep a few razors on deck. I bought these on super clearance last year. I think they were only about $2 and some change so I grabbed a pack of each of the razors they had on clearance and started with this package first.

Gillete claims:
3 blades for a smooth shave and SkinElixir that releases a perfect dose of protection you can feel.

I bought these the summer I was looking into buying an electric razor. I was trying to be environmental conscious and stop contributing to the plastic waste that goes in a landfill and sits and sits. But all the razors come with that pesky little cancer warning on the box so in the store it stayed. Then I bought a bunch of these and forgot about my quest for a good electric razor.

I don't have particularly sensitive skin but I have had a reaction to cheap razors.  I would get bumps, nicks and cuts, and the cheaper razors dull fast. Just because of that it is worth it to pay a little more for a better quality razor.

The first time I used this, I had a reaction and it was uncomfortable and bumpy. I was confused at how I could use the regular razors from Gillette and my skin was fine, but I used the sensitive and it left me feeling like I used a cheapie razor.

Luckily, I didn't have that problem later on and haven't had it since. I keep my razors for awhile. I don't throw them out until they get noticeably dull so this pack will likely last me the whole year.

It looks like any other Venus Razor, it has the nice comfy handle, doesn't feel cheap, and doesn't fall apart.

That being said...this one isn't my favorite. I don't feel like it gets as close so my skin doesn't feel as smooth. Which is the whole point of shaving in the first place. I've used better from Gillette. I really need to try the mens razors- Ive heard those are best and they tend to be cheaper than razors marketed at women.

Anyway...I probably wouldn't buy again. I had another razor (can't remember the name and I didn't review them) from Venus I liked more than these.

Schick Quattro For Women

Today was a good day. I worked out (Zumba-520 calories) and made super bowl food (buffalo chicken cheese balls). Speaking of Super Bowl, who's watching? Not me. I find football to be a little slow paced and boring. I may watch half time though. Any, I meant to write this before summer. It's winter still. And I don't really shave much in winter. Or summer for that matter. I tend to do it whenever I think I should...which just isn't very often.

Schick claims:
he high performance Schick® Quattro for Women®Razor has enhanced conditioning strips with Acai Berry and Jojoba Complex.
A shave so smooth you can even skip a day or two!
I remember when this razor came out. I was in high school. It was the girl version of the boys razor. I actually got my first one free with a coupon in the magazine. I never repurchased until recently. I just bought the refills because I still had the handle.

I remember when I first got it. The handle was really impressive. Especially compared to the Venus which is plastic. This one is metal and has a nice heavy quality feel to it. I think it's under warranty too. I've had mine forever and haven't had any problems. It's easy to grip and handle. They really did a good job with the design of it.

As for the razor. I like it. But I don't love it. I don't think it gets close enough. My skin just doesn't feel "smooth" when I get out the shower with some other razors I've used. And that's surprising considering how many blades it has.

I also think this dulls quickly. And dries my skin a little bit.

I'm thinking about switching to an electric one because I think those are a little less wasteful...what do you think?

As far as I'm concerned they got it half right. I love the handle but think the razor could be better.

So for me, they got it half right.

Excuse Me Ma'am, You Have a Mustache

Don't worry, I'm talking about myself. I don't really have a "mustache" just tiny fine hairs on my upper lip. They aren't really noticeable in person but they are when I take pics so I get rid of them.

I use waxing strips that I bought fr only two euro at The Body Shop. They work great. I used to have Sally Hansen one's but they sucked.

I put on alcohol to really get the area clean. If not I get little bumps after that aren't too cute.

Then I cut the strips, warm them between my hands..and stick them off. Then I get someone to pull them off for me. And then I'm "little hair free".

To get the remaining wax off my skin I'll take some oil and rub it on the area. And I'm done.

Sidenote, have you ever seen women with an out of control mustache? I've seen about two. One working in a grocery store. It was crazy because she looked pretty feminine, she had makeup on and cute clothes. Then I looked at her face and she had a full on goatee. It was horrible. (shudders).

BIC Soleil Triple Blade For Woman Sensitive Skin

So I only got this because it was 23 cents!! I couldn't afford to not get it. It was orginally $2.23 but I had a coupon for two dollars off. Savings like that could make my whole week. It's a good thing I did get these too because I left my Venus one at home. Going four months without shaving is just a little bit much for me. Can you imagine?

BIC claims:
Soleil™ just made women's shaving hotter! Triple-blade technology that will deliver a smooth, close shave. Lube strip that provides soothing Aloe and Vitamin E moisturizers for softer skin. Curvy, non-slip handle that allows for an easy grip in the shower or bath. Stylish design. Four vibrant sun-toned color

What I like about these:
They are ORANGE! My favorite color
They work..OK
The Grip

What I don't like about these:
My skin hurts a little after using them
Those strips are only effective for the first shave
My skin is extra dry after using these (it takes days to recover)
Could fit a little into my hand

So would I buy again? Nope. Not unless they are on sale. But I'm stuck with them until I go back home.

Gillete Venus Razor

I meant to do this review for summer. I don't know what happened. Time got away from me. Since I already had the handle (although it's not a color match) I only bought the refill cartridges. I think they were around ten dollars for four. It is pretty expensive.

Gillette's claims:
Now just one stroke gives you the closest shave ever - so close your skin stays smoother longer.
Three Blades...Surrounded by Soft Protective Cushions
The cushions gently smooth out your skin so the three blades safely shave you close, closer, closest.
Pivoting Rounded Head
Hugs your curves and fits easily into hard-to-shave areas.
Indicator Strip with Aloe & Vitamin E
The blue stripe fades away when you are no longer getting the optimal Venus shave.
ShowerSafe Blade Refills
Individually sealed to be stored in the shower.

Umm where do I start. The handle has always been comfortable and I love the grips. The razor itself has three blades on it and it get's pretty close. I stay smooth for around a day and a half then I start to feel a little stubble.

I like these because I don't cut myself when shaving and I don't get skin irritation. Some razors leave your skin dry and uncomfortable.

My ideal shaver would keep me smooth for three days but I guess you can't have it all. I know some people shave everyday but I'm doing good if I even do it once a week. Since I shave so sparsely my razors last longer. I just make sure to keep it away from water. I really like to stretch my ten dollars and four cartridges. What can I say?

Overall I like these. I would recommend them. I think next I'm gonna try Venus Divine (I have used them before but that was when I was a beginner and never payed attention to the results.)

Veet Spray On Hair Removal Cream for Sensitive Skin

It's summer and time to keep those legs smooooth. So I picked up some Veet Spray on Hair Removal Cream. I wanted to see if cream hair removers have improved any since I last used them.

Veet claims:
Developed for all women, who desire to make the depilation easier – you just apply it fast and simply directly from spray onto the required areas, with no need of spreading. Then the
cream is removed in usual way and the result is velvety look and smooth skin.

So what I like about this is that it is a spray. So that means I don't have to touch this stinky stuff (yes it still stinks).

What I hate about this is I got one and (almost) a half apllications. Which is terrible considering it costs at least five bucks. I sprayed my legs and then discovered the can was nearly empty! I mean I do have big legs but.....Where is the product?

And it took a little bit longer than five minutes for it to work.

I do like the spatula thing and I will be keeping it for any removal creams I buy in the future.

Ingredients:
Water (Eau) , Urea , Potassium Thioglycolate , Glycerin , Calcium Hydroxide , Cetearyl Alcohol , Butane , Propane , Ceteareth-20 , Butyrospermum Parkii Extract (Shea Butter) , Magnesium Trisilicate , Parfum (Fragrance) , PPG-15 Stearyl Ether , Isobutane , Titanium Dioxide , Propylene Glycol , Sodium Gluconate , Acrylates Copolymer , Tocopheryl Acetate , Aloe Barbadensis Leaf , Hydrated Silica , BHT

As for ingredients, let's just say that shaving involves less chemicals. I think I'll be taking that route for awhile!!!

Do I recommend? Absolutely not. Especially since it doesn't seem to last the same as shaving.

Gillete Venus Spa Breeze in White Tea

I needed a new razor (especially since summer is coming) so I went ahead and got the Venus Spa Breeze with built in shaving gel I never use shaving gel anyway so I thought this would be a good idea. It costs about eight dollars I think. The refill cartridges are what will get you in the end as I think they are about thirteen dollars for four.

It's Claims:
2 in1 razor plus shave gel bars.Smooth your skin and indulge your senses.Makes shaving a breeze - no need for shave cream

So, I don't like this. The shave gel bar get's in the way and I don't think the razor get's close enough to really give you a close shave. Which means that my legs feel prickly faster. As the shave gel bar wears down it will get closer but that defeats the purpose. The gel itself is nothing more that slime. I mean it helps to prevent knicks but my legs feel kinda dry afterwards. The razor itself is not horrible. It just isn't worth it and there are much better one's out there.

Oh yeah, and it doesn't really smell like White Tea but it is kind of pleaseant.

Overall, I would skip.

Veet Rapid Action Har Removal Lotion

I've been wanting to try Veet and see how it compares to Nair for awhile. And since it was two minutes shorter than Nair's time and you dont have to use a washcloth to remove it I thought I would try it.

It's claims:
Need more time for you? Veet® Rapid Action Hair Removal Lotion removes unwanted hair in just 3 minutes—the fastest amount of time currently available for a depilatory lotion. All you need is warm water and the easy-to-squeeze lotion tube. It’s that simple.Sweet almond and mineral oils enrich Veet® Rapid Action Hair Removal Lotion, leaving your skin silky smooth, sexy, and ready for anything. Best of all, hair takes much longer to grow back than with shaving.

I mostly use this on my eyebrows but on occassion on my whole body. It is more expensive than shaving though which is why I rarely use it on my whole body. Also shaving seems to involve less chemicals which is why I would rather shave. I noticed that the results I get from this don't last very long. Even on my eyebrows. It also smells bad. I always worry about the scent sticking to my skin after I've showered.

The ingredients:

Water, Urea, Potassium Thioglycolate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Calcium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide, Ceteareth-20, Ppg-15 Stearyl Ether, Fragrance, Magnesium Trisilicate, Titanium Dioxide, Propylene Glycol, Lithium Magnesium Sodium Silicate, Sodium Gluconate, Mineral Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Acrylates Copolymer, Hydrated Silica, BHT.

Overall it's average. Over time I can imagine it getting pretty expensive at five buck a squeezy tube.
