Lush Sleepy Dust Body Powder Review

I love the way Lush names their body powers- this makes the third one I have tried after Fairy Dust and Silky Underwear.  This is one of the things I stocked up on in the Christmas sale. Hopefully they go on sale again, because I do want to grab a few more for the next year. They do last quite a long time though. I need maybe 2-3 a year. 

Lush claims:

With this body powder, you can fall asleep gently covered on the sofa at any time of the day, whenever you need a break. So take a quick shower and then dive from head to toe into this dreamy powder before you wrap yourself in a cocoon of blankets.

Lavender blends with tonka and warming benzoin resin to create a beguiling and at the same time extremely relaxing fragrance. Kaolin has a mattifying effect, oat oil helps your skin retain moisture. Only a small breath of powder is enough to prepare your skin for a well-deserved rest. Sleep well.

This is how it works:

Dry yourself after bathing or showering. Sprinkle the powder on your skin, massage it in and you are ready for a restful sleep!

You can also apply it in addition to the Sleepy Body Lotion or the Sleep Massage Oil to absorb excess butter and prepare to slip into your favorite pajamas.

Sleepy Dust. Sounds like something fairies run around sprinkling into the air at bed time. I love the Lush Sleepy scent. It's is the perfect sweet Vanilla Lavender scent. It used to be the only kind of Lavender scent I could stand but herbal lavender scents have definitely grown on me. The only thing about this scent is it doesn't last long. A few minutes later, you can't even smell it. 

It has a lot of uses though, just a general body powder or a sleep dust.  I used it once to sprinkle in my bed before I went to sleep and the burst of the scent was nice but it really did not last long. I wanted it to stick around since it is a relaxing and a perfect bedtime scent. I also like to use when when I'm wearing a dress to help keep the thigh chafing in check. It works well but you do have to reapply. 

The ingredients are nice. I like that is doesn't have talc.

Tapioca Starch, Magnesium Carbonate, Baking Soda, Chamomile Powder, Lavender Powder, Perfume, Lavender Oil, Benzoin Resin, Tonka Absolute, Ylang Ylang Oil, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Cinnamate, Benzyl Salicylate, Cinnamon, Coumarin, Eugenol, Farnesol, Geraniol, Isoeugenol, Limonene, Linalool, Colour.

Overall, I do wish the scent would stick around. But I do love the initial burst of scent. I will probably keep on buying dusting powders from Lush. I do generally like them and there aren't very many alternatives except baby powder- which is nice but I think I enjoy the Lush scents more. 

Lush Fairy Dust Dusting Powder Review

 It's my birthday! Well tomorrow, but since it's 2 in the am it's already technically today. Happy Birthday to me! Figured since I was still up I would knock out a blog post. On fairy Dust. Lush really does have some of the best concepts for their products. Calling a pink body powder fairy dust? Fun. Or at least I think so. It makes me think of the fairies in Sleeping Beauty for some reason. They had wands though...not dust.

Candy scented shimmering skin

This sweet Snow Fairy scented dusting powder is full of plastic-free glitter. Sprinkle over clean skin to soften, feel fresh, and shimmer.

This body powder is Snow Fairy in powder form. I don't always love Snow Fairy, I like it in the shower gel form. Not a fan of it in bath bomb/bubble bar form.  But I am a fan of it in the body powder form. So much so, that I first bought it in 2020 and bought another one in the 2021 sale.

For some reason they are different.

The 2020 one is my favorite. It smells like Snow Fairy, but a fresh Snow Fairy. Not as bubble gum smelling. They smell the same but different to other things in the line, if that makes sense. The 2020 one definitely smells better though.I much prefer that one to the newer one which mostly smells the same from a distance, but when I smell them up close, the 2021 one just doesn't smell as great. It smells kinda off.

 

One thing I really like about it is that it's pink and blends into my skin without looking like I put on white ash. It also leaves behind a pretty sparkle. Again, the 2020 one is much better. The newer one has more white base so it looks ashier and leaves a powdery look behind and it's slightly more gritty.

It does leave a silverish sparkle to the skin that I find pretty flattering. Usually gold shimmer compliments my skin tone better but I think this one is quite universal. Or at least my first one was. The second one just doesn't quite measure up with the white cast it leaves behind.

I'm noticing the powders really vary batch to bath because I experienced the same thing with the Silky Underwear powder. The first one I bought was amazing and the last two I bought just didn't smell as good.

My favorite thing about this product is how much it lingers. The other powder, the scent just disappeared and didn't last. This one really sticks around for hours. Maybe because it's more synthetic? 

It does contain talc, Lush does claim that their talc is tested regularly to make sure there is no heavy metal contamination or asbestos as talc has been quite a controversial ingredient throughout the last couple of years. Since they do say they test it, I'm OK with it. Typically with other companies, like Johnson and Johnson, I would usually avoid the talc powders and go for the cornstarch. Especially given their latest lawsuits.

 Overall, I liked it enough to repurchase once before. But I'm not very happy with the inconsistencies between batches. I would only ever buy it again in the Christmas sale since I'm not sure which batch I would be getting. 

Lush Silky Underwear Review

The last week has been glorious for me. I had ten days off in a row. I had planned to do a couple of posts here and there but then decided I would take a break from everything. I did re-do a vanity I have, I painted it orange. And even updated the knobs. It came out super cute! Did a little shopping. Actually a lot of shopping....😳 Anyway onto the review.

This dusting powder is the ultimate finishing touch; cocoa butter and cornstarch to soften the skin and a sophisticated and sexy yet delicate jasmine and vetivert fragrance.

How to use:

After bathing or showering, shake a little of this moisturising, dusting powder all over your body for velvety soft skin. With a dusting of Silky Underwear, you won’t want to wear anything else.

So this is just body powder. Much like baby powder which is what I used growing up- the talc kind was found to be dangerous (mold or asbestos I think) but...there is always the cornstarch variety. I'm not even sure if they still sell the talc variety. Anyway...I've been wanting to try a more grown up powder. I remember having one as a kid in a addition to baby powder. I had it for years and years. No idea what it was...but powders have always been kind of fun to me. 

This one is supposed to be Jasmine and Vetiver scented. A lot of Lush stuff can be a little overpowering. Not this. It's a very gentle scent. Kind of smells like a Jasmine sweet tart- if they made one. 

When I first bought it, I couldn't believe how small the container was. But a little seems to go a long, long way. I've used it a lot and still have half the bottle left.

Speaking of the bottle, it is plastic. The recycled kind. I kind of wish they would explore a different packaging. Even thought I know the container is recyclable, I feel they could put it in a paper packaging. It's also a little strange to shake it out from a bottle. But it does work, even if it takes a little getting used to. 

It says that it's moisturizing. Not really. You can't put it on expecting the Cocoa Butter in it to work wonders. Most of my Cocoa Butter ends up on the floor. You have to put lotion or some sort of moisturizer first. And then you can go in with this.

I wish they made them tinted. White powder on brown skin can look a little strange and I think tinting the powder can help with that. 

The ingredients are perfect for me. You can definitely buy higher priced, less natural powders.

Overall, I don't love it. I like it. I feel like I can make a more cost effective DIY version. Yet, I would still re-purchase and probably will. I do want to try the other scent varieties though.
