I remember the first time I heard of Banana Bread. Bananas in bread? But...how? I was really young so I didn't understand the concept of crushing banana and adding them to recipes. White bread was as fancy as I got in the old days. But once I tried banana bread there was no going back. Of course, it only tastes great if you use real bananas. There is simply no reason for fake banana bread.
When I saw this recipe I knew I had to try it.
I have always heard about Monkey Bread but never had the pleasure of trying it. Anyone know why Monkey Bread is called Monkey Bread?
I got the recipe from Bakerqgirl. Click Here for the recipe.
Monkey bread muffins are more work than your regular muffin recipe. So I doubt I would make them very often.
My lack of experience led to me rolling these a bit bigger and because I didn't press them together most fell apart. But you cook and you learn.
They still tasted good even if they didn't look exactly as planned. I threw a bunch in the freezer and they will make a great little snack when I'm craving something sweet.
And banana muffins rolled in cinnamon sugar sure does fill a craving like you wouldn't believe..
Update: The more I eat these the more I love them! The banana flavor gets better and better as they cool. It's like eating a banana muffin mini surrounded in streusel topping. I used fresh ground whole wheat flour (2 cups the rest all purpose) so I would like to believe they are a little healthier than normal.
