I am about to go and wash my hair so I can get ready to blow it out. I really hope laziness does not get the best of me and I actually do blow out my hair today. It's something I've been planning to do for awhile but...laziness just takes over. I probably also need to trim my ends.. but I don't have hair trimming scissors handy. Which I don't have those handy for a reason because I love to cut random pieces off my hair. It's so satisfying...and addicting.
Anyway on to all the good food I made this past week.
Starting with Lemon Sugar Cookies. I made regular vanilla sugar cookies in the last post- I find those to be a very boring flavor. They were good...but just so boring. I loved the flavor on these lemon cookies. I think they should be puffier but I let them sit in the refrigerator too long and the baking powder lost it's puff. So they spread out a little more. I think in the future I wouldn't let the dough sit so long. They did taste really good. They don't beat the lemon ricotta cookies I make but they were still an amazing lemon cookie. I did add some of my DIY lemon extract...I always do that. I think that helps the lemon flavor. Also lemon sugar is amazing....I need to make more and figure out what else I can do with it.
Then I made lemon pepper wings. I rarely make wings but I bought these on sale and they were just sitting in my freezer. These are the kind of recipes that make me wish I had an air fryer. But I still don't want one with the non-stick coating. This was a little different in that you coat it in baking powder. Not sure what that does but the wings were "juicier" as apposed to crispy. That being said I don't think lemon pepper wings are my flavor. Unless it was just this recipe. I used the Sunny Spain Lemon pepper seasoning from Penzey and added a good amount lemon zest. I also had another lemon seasoning from Spice House (Florida Citrus and Pepper?) and that didn't do it for me either. Made Parsnip fries to go with it. Excuse the steam. It was HOT.
And last thing I made was a Harry Potter recipe. Kreacher's French Onion Soup. I didn't know onion soup has been around 2,000 years and was largely a soup for "poor people". Then there is French Onion soup which is a fancy version of onion soup. I didn't like onions for over half my life, I do like them now when they are cooked down enough. This soup was delicious though. And I loved the cheese croutons. So good! I made beef bratwurst to go with it. YUM. Onions are great for your immune system and I definitely need a boost because we are in that in between weather where a lot of people are sick. I heard the nastiest of coughs in the grocery store the other day. But yeah, one of the better recipes in the unofficial Potter cookbook.
And that's all for this week!
