I feel like I just did a music post- but it's that time again. This time we are taking it back to Motown. I definitely heard a lot of The Supremes growing up. They definitely paved the way for many of my favorite girl groups that came later -mostly in the 90's.
Starting with my favorite song (but not my favorite version)- Ain't No Mountain High. I loved it from the very first listen. I used to get so excited when it made an appearance in a movie I was watching. The definitive version of this song for me is the Marvin Gaye- Tammi Terrell version. But I rock with this one too.
Next up we have I Hear A Symphony. I love watching the live clips- they just seem like the most glamorous girl group. Except those wigs. I could just imagine if I was a kid in this era- I would probably give my kidney up to be a part of a group like this.
I love this one. My World Is Empty Without You. The way they harmonize...
Then we have Stop in the Name of Love. I was obsessed with this song in 5th/6th grade. Something to do with the hand motion. I had sooo much fun acting it out and pretending I was a Supreme 😁
You Can't Hurry Love is probably my 2nd favorite song. No...maybe it's my favorite. This gets stuck in my head and then I can't get it out!
Ooh those dresses!! I love this song though. How glamorous they look!!
This one is another classic. Top Five favorite. The Supremes AND Temptations. I can't imagine the excitement people had for this song back in the day. I love, love, love My Girl. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. Loved it since I first heard it...having a remix with a part for the ladies? Yes!
Almost forgot about Baby Love. Top Three. I love this one. These songs are just taking me back. I also have a strong urge to watch Dreamgirls and do a deep dive into the scandalous history of the Supremes. I also now want to wear 60's make up, throw on a dressy dress, and stand in the mirror and throw a pretend Supremes concert.
Next up, Come See About Me. This is a little different from the record. But I do really love this song!
Last song before we get into the Christmas Classics. Where Did Our Love Go. Another Top Five song for me. You Know What's Cool about The Supremes? Their sound is instantly recognizable. There are some groups that you can't tell one from another but The Supremes definitely have their own instantly recognizable sound. I think that's what really stands out all these decades later.
Bonus: Some Christmas Songs that are in my 100 song strong Christmas playlist. I know it's a bit early but it's still right around the corner with how fast this year has been going. We have Children's Christmas Song.
Then we have My Favorite Things. I'm not the biggest fan of Diana but I have to admit I did like her voice on most of the Christmas songs. But then again- not like they gave any of the other group members a chance to shine.
It's a shame there isn't a live version. But this is my favorite version of Silver Bells. It's on a lot of Christmas albums and can be very, very boring. I like this one though.
My favorite Christmas song from The Supremes is probably Twinkle Twinkle Little Me.. I just think this is the cutest song.
Last Christmas Song. White Christmas. A Christmas Staple. This can also be quite a boring and sleepy song but this is on the Christmas playlist because it's my favorite version of this slow song.
One of the most important and iconic girl groups of all time.
