Chagrin Valley claims:
An infusion of scalp-soothing botanicals blends with soapnuts, apple juice, kaolin clay and a refreshing citrus essential oils to create a natural shampoo that adds body and sheen, helps tame an oily scalp without over-drying, and makes hair feel silky and smooth.
A natural shampoo infused with organic soapnuts. Soapnuts, called "aritha or reetha" in Ayurvedic medicine, have long been known for their benefits for healthy hair and scalp, and have been used for centuries as an anti-hair loss shampoo.
Their natural antifungal and antibacterial properties may help with dandruff. The natural saponins not only cleanse hair without drying, but they also add body and sheen and make hair feel thicker, silky, and smooth.
- Cold pressed organic apple juice helps with dandruff and itchy scalp and makes hair shiny, silky, and manageable
- Organic chamomile and yarrow flowers bring out highlights in blonde hair and add sheen to dark hair
- Citrus essential oils and kaolin clay tame an oily scalp without over-drying
- A great natural shampoo for normal to oily hair

I've had this shampoo bar for years at this point. This is the last of a haul I bought quite a while ago. I think it's a great company so I probably will still go ahead and pick up more when I finally run out of this one.
This bar is meant for oily hair...which I don't have but I still really like anyway. I think it does a better job of getting oil buildup from hair product out. It's also good after a hot oil treatment. So it's not just great for naturally oily haired people.
This one doesn't have a particular scent. It just smells like a soap bar- and it has the same underlying scent of other Chagrin Valley scents. I do prefer something a little more scented but it doesn't bother me that much. I just make sure to follow up with a nice smelling conditioner.
It is a shampoo bar- that means no plastic bottle when you are done. Just recycle the box and move on. I always convince myself that it's harder to use a shampoo bar- and it's really not. The only thing is I don't like to use it exclusively. I feel I get best results when I switch with a commercial shampoo. So I try to use it every other shampoo. It's not as stripping and it doesn't immediately tangle my hair like some SLS shampoos meant for oily hair. It lathers up pretty well and rinses easily and cleanly. I don't feel like my hair is coated, I am just left with clean hair that is ready for the next step. I think it's really important to read the tips on the website for best results but I haven't had any trouble. I prefer this type of bar to the ones that have heavy butters and oils.
I love a good natural shampoo bar. I think they have some of the best ingredients. I can see on the website they seem to have changed some of the ingredients around- I can't speak to the new bar but they look like they would work similarly?
Ingredients:
Organic Sunflower Oil infused with Botanicals (Chamomile, Yarrow, Calendula), Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil, Organic Castor Oil, Organic Sustainable Palm Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Organic Cold Pressed Apple Juice, Organic Jojoba oil, Water, Organic Canola Oil, Organic Soap nuts, Kaolin Clay, Essential Oils of Grapefruit, bergamot, Litsea, Lime, Lemon, Organic Rosemary Extract.
Overall, it's a nice shampoo bar- it gets your hair clean without stripping it and drying it out. If you use a lot of oil or have a lot of build up by the time wash day comes around- I would recommend it! When I do eventually use this bar up, I plan to order another three to try out.
