Toad in the Hole and Pear Strudel

I'm well over 60 percent through with the Unofficial Harry Potter cookbook and it just occurred to me- I have not come across any ButterBeer recipe- nor have I come across any fish and chips. It's criminal really. I haven't read ahead but I am really, really hoping they are somewhere in this book. I think I'm till cooking through the Great Hall. What there are is an abundance of puddings- in the UK they really do call everything a pudding. That's for next time I reach into this book- in the meantime. Toad in the Hole. Such an odd name. But actually pretty good.I decided to make mine for Easter dinner so I used sausage that was a mix of beef and lamb. Then jut mix of the batter, bake and there you have part of dinner done. I decided to serve with some gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots. Dinner was very nice! I would actually make this again...

And then I made pear strudel. But not pear strudel. I didn't feel like finding the Phyllo dough---- so I bought store bought puff  pastry. Didn't end up liking it so I used it to make fake toaster strudels and assorted other breakfast pastries. Then I just ended up making a pie crust and making a pear galette. It was good. But I think I prefer Apple- with a few pears sprinkled in. I fully intended to make this for Easter and I made the crust and filling on that Sunday- but didn't end up baking it up until a few days later. I was tired. It would have been bomb with some ice cream- but alas I didn't have any on hand.

And that's all for this week! Not a bad week for me overall....
