Malin + Goetz Cannabis Candle Review

I imagine a lot of people buy this because of the name. I probably did too...mostly because I was curious what it smells like. Would it be the hemp scent? Would it be Mary Jane? These candles are also on the pricier side too...so I'm glad they come in the votive size. I just wish the price was better. Because I can tell you.. for me it's not worth it.

Malin and Goetz claims:

an herbaceous, verdant + wild scent that turns each moment into grounding stillness.

16% Cannabis Perfume Oil

the cannabis scent is a daily supplement to city living. known to calm + ground, the four-dimensional scent for the mind and body transcends spaces and experiences. we can close our eyes wherever we are and disappear into a lazy afternoon spent dwelling on a favorite record with a lingering smokiness that can permeate any room.

cannabis has always been used in secret to soothe + enlighten. now, we’ve unearthed the apothecary staple’s ability to nourish with herbaceous and verdant aromas that simultaneously ground us in awareness while allowing us to escape. cannabis balances wild notes of bergamot, black pepper and cedarwood with soft, floral notes of muguet and magnolia.

our votives are made with high-quality perfume oils and a vegetable wax blend with a clean, slow burn that lasts 25 hours. suitable for burning alone or in unexpected pairings for a unique experience. after the wax has burned through, our glass vessels can even be cleaned and upcycled as espresso glasses or decorative containers.

Notes- Bergamot, Black Pepper+Orange, Cannabis Accord, Muguet+Magnolia, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Amber+Musk

This is not my first time trying the brand. I had little samples of their hair stuff from a hotel and reviewed the dark rum soap a few years back . I think the brand is marketed as unisex and the scents are supposed to be more uni but the scents I've tried tend to be a bit more masculine.

Anyway...the packaging gets an A. Comes in a very nice box. The votive has the brand printed on it. It's not just a sticker.

This candle has a little bit of everything in it. Florals, Woody, Citrus. To be Honest, I don't even get all those notes. It just smells like a really nice smelling man.

But it doesn't really translate out when lit. It smells like a lit candle mostly. And then in the small surrounding area I smell/catch whiffs of something pleasant but forgettable. I've had votives that have better scent strength and that's what I expect even in a small votive especially when considering the price.

It's supposed to be a veggie wax and a cotton wick. I didn't have any issues with the burn and it didn't soot or smoke. So that's good.

Overall, I don't think it was anything special. I would still try another candle from the brand- I'm especially interested in the tomato candle. But probably won't be trying that for a few years.
