I was in the 6th grade when I was first introduced to Kelis music. It was the Caught Out There song. I always caught the very end of the song and never really understood it. All I remember thinking was somebody made Kelis madt. Big Madt.
I listened to it a couple years back..and I had an AHA moment. The song grew on me and now I love playing it and shouting the lyrics. I can't say I've ever felt that way about anyone- hate takes a lot of energy and I don't have the attention span for it. I wanted to post the music video, but I couldn't find it to post. 😖
The Bossy era may have been my favorite. I loved her hair, and I was so sad to see her cut it off. I loved the cut but I miss the curly fro. I noticed Beyonce' definitely bit off (or do we call it inspired by) a lot that Kelis did. Diva is similar to Bossy, Partition that reminds me of In Public By Kelis.
Milkshake was my jam. I still sing this song at randoms times at least once a week. I just downloaded the song from Dance Central too. I might have to play that tonight.
I Want Your Love has a classic Neptunes sound. It doesn't sound like it's anywhere as old as it is.
Rumble took a little bit to grow on me. But it did. I'm a fan.
Other faves
Bless the Telephone
In Public- This was the other song she did with Nas. I think In Public was a much better song. I wasn't a fan of Blindfold Me, the chorus was....kinda annoying. IDK.
And that's all. I think my favorite thing about Kelis is she seems to have this thing where she comes across confident in who she is, and is not afraid of critiques. I aspire to get on her level.
I wish I could have posted the actual music video of some of these songs but Blogger made a few changes and now it's limited and you can only view them from the full site. Grrrr.
