I'm trying to make a better conscious effort of shopping and buying more black owned brands. Starting with candles. I can't remember exactly how I heard about this brand...but I'm in love the concept of it. A candle brand that pays homage to black artist from the Harlem Renaissance time period. I love it. I figured I would start with the Josephine candle, inspired by icon Josephine Baker.
Essence of Opulent Amber
Inspired by the legendary Josephine Baker’s boudoir, this warm, sensual scent opens with vibrant bergamot blending into a heart of lush Moroccan Rose and Indian Jasmine. Amber, sweet tonka bean and precious sandalwood provide a beautiful finish as exquisite as Josephine herself.
This is my favorite candle of all time. I didn't even know a candle could smell so good. It smells luxurious, opulent, and expensive.
It reminds me a little of the Guerlain Shalimar perfume. Or even La Labo Labdanum. It has a hint of powderiness to it, otherwise it's just a perfectly blended scent. I can't really pick out the notes.
I just know I love this scent and I will definitely be repurchasing. I mostly like to burn this in my bedroom in the evenings. It's just the perfect scent to relax and read a book or watch a movie too.
It comes in a red glass jar, with two wicks. Mostly burns down evenly with no help. And it has a really great throw. The scent just travels and then lingers for a few hours after you blow it out.
It has a claimed burn time of 80 hours. I don't know about all of that...but I think it will burn for quite a while.
I do notice after a little while the wick starts to mushroom and then soot, so this is not one I like to burn for a long time. Since it doesn't take long to scent a space and then scent really travels, I don't find I need to burn it too long anyway.
Overall, it's my favorite. I will definitely be repurchasing but not before trying some of their other scents- I really want to try the Langston Candle and Speakeasy. I bought mine from Macy's but you can get it off their website or even a few more department stores seem to sell them.
