Maison Louis Marie No. 9 Vallee De Farney Perfume Oil Review

Perfume oil number two by Maison Loius Marie. Thank goodness for samples because I would have been sad had I bought a full size of this.

Because I don’t like the scent. Not even a tiny bit.

Maison Claims:

Vallée de Farney is a nature preserve located in the native forests of the Mauritius Island. The forest is home to more than 100 plant species and numerous animals where Louis Marie discovered many new plant specimens. Inspired by the wild forest, this scent is a woody, mineral fragrance. The top note is a citrus accord of grapefruit, orange, and black pepper enhanced by Cedarwood and Patchouli.

Top note: Grapefruit, Orange, Black Pepper
Mid note: Cedarwood, Patchouli, Geranium
Base note: Vetiver, Amber, Musk

This scent reminds me of a few that I tried from Aqcau Di Parma so that's what comes to mind each and every time I roll some on. It has two notes I generally like- Grapefruit, and Patchouli. I don't dislike Vetiver but I can't think of any scents where it's prominent or front and center that I have really liked. So vetiver is not a selling point for me. I'm not sure what it is about this scent- but I really, really don't like it.

I think it doesn't mostly dry down to Vetiver though. And typically I love Grapefruit and Patchouli together as essential oils...but the grapefruit just becomes not so fresh for some reason. It almost reminds me of a cleaning spray in a way or a dish soap. So it does have a "cleaner" aspect to it as well.

It is a unisex fragrance that leans more masculine. And since I don't tend to like unisex scents and especially not masculine ones-it's no surprised that I really don't like it. I don't even think I would like it on a man.

Luckily I only smell it when I roll it on and then I tend to go nose-blind. It's also a simple wear, it doesn't develop or get complex.

As for packaging-the brand is always so clean and neutral. And I think it looks nice- but I'm not a fan of the plastic rollerball. The metal ones just work so much better. Plus the plastic ones just feel cheap. It still works but doesn't flow or apply as evenly as it should.

The brand seems OK, except the claims or descriptions that make this sound like a brand that's been around for centuries. From what I have read the brand was started in 2016 (or something close to that)  but they found had an ancestor that dabbled in fragrance or herbs or something like that. A bit disingenuous.

If you do like it, it comes in a ton of other forms. Candle, hand cream, diffuser, body wash, hand soap, deodorant, body lotion, and on and on.. Which is a plus if you like it. I might still try the candle even though I don't like the scent on me- because I do like the quality of the candles.

Overall, it's a no from me.
