Time and time again I fall for Shea Moisture and even though it largely does not work for my hair- I still repurchase. I don't know why. And I have another product after I use this one up to try out after this is gone. I will state over and over how I'm done with them and then another product ends up coming home with me.
Shea Moisture claims:
Looking to soften, condition, and repair your chemically-treated mane? This ultra-nourishing leave-in conditioner helps you to detangle your locks while supporting elasticity, so your mane is less prone to breakage.Perfect for those who regularly color, straighten, relax or heat style their hair (even in wavy, curly, or coily textures). A protective layer is added to help protect against split ends and frizz. A real MVP in our book!
So let's start with scent. It smells like unrefined Shea Butter and Vanilla (reminiscent of birthday cake!) . It's really a nice scent but Shea Moisture does usually have nice scents.
It also contains an odd mix of ingredients. Apple Cider Vinegar has always been something I see in wash out products. At least it doesn't smell of vinegar though. And it also has peppermint but doesn't smell minty. And it has my favorite- Shea Butter!
I've been pretty consistent with Leave-In Conditioners. I don't know that they made a big difference but in my mind it's better than applying drying hair gel day in, day out with nothing to protect the strands.
This doesn't add much moisture to my hair. But most leave in conditioners really don't seem to add moisture. It's better than applying nothing but barely!
This is aimed at chemically treated hair-which I don't have. I rarely use heat on my hair but I do plan on straightening and cutting it soon. It is supposed to help with elasticity and breakage. I don't have breakage but I can always use something to strengthen my hair- which I do feel like my strands feel thicker and stronger. Or maybe it's a placebo. But I do think this has done something.
I haven't tried it to detangle. Usually I just use my conditioner. If I do try it- I'll come back and update.
Now for the downsides- I don't feel like it does much for shine. I feel like it slightly dulls my hair. Especially when I used it in a twist out where I put it under a color wax.
Shea Moisture is a black founded brand- but it's no longer black owned. Unilever owns it now. Most people did note the product stopped working for their hair around the time it was sold. I feel like it stopped working for me way before then..I had issues with some of the soaps etc. As always I do like to note when a company is black owned or if it has been sold.
The ingredients are pretty good. It's good to see the advertised oil coming in 2nd- which means there is a lot! It also has a lot of other goodies in it, I'm glad to see that. The brand has changed but the ingredients do still look pretty ok.
