I thought Palmolive only made dish soap. After doing a little digging, the company that originated the soap started in 1864 in Wisconsin but the Palmolive soap didn't come out until 1898. Named for the Palm and Olive oil it was made out of- and even some Cocoa Butter. This is most definitely not the original Palmolive soap.
Palmolive claims:

I read this about the soap- "In 1917 the corporation was renamed The Palmolive Company, having a run of success over the years – relying heavily on advertising: the product proved wildly popular, thanks in large part to an advertising campaign that promoted it as an exotic cleanser that would have been favored in the age of the Pharaohs. By the early 1900s, Palmolive was the world's best-selling soap". Definitely interesting marketing, and I'm pretty sure that's all it was.
I don't know if this is different from the bar I saw a few months ago or if they changed their marketing to make it seem more natural.
It's a little green soap that comes in an easily recyclable paper wrapper.
First thing I noticed- it stinks. It has that cheap soap scent. I really hate the scent. It's stronger than it needs to be and just smells like a cheap public bathroom soap. It reminds me of the Nivea bar soaps. I'm sure this isn't the original scent of the soap.
Everything else was fine. It lathers nice, rinses clean, and doesn't seem to dry my skin (but I've been pretty consistent with putting on lotion).
